Accra, Sept. 22, GNA - A 35 year-old trader who stole 16 mobile phones from three different shops in the Accra Metropolis was on Wednesday arraigned at a Circuit Court in Accra. Mabel Dwamena pleaded not guilty to three separate charges of stealing.

The Court admitted her to a 210 million-cedi bail with six sureties in all the three cases. She is appearing again on October 11. The court asked her to be reporting to the police twice every week.

But soon after Mabel was granted bail she was whisked away by police investigators.

In the first case, prosecution said on July 19, Mabel went to a mobile phone shop at First Light, near Kaneshie, under the pretext of buying mobile phones to sell.

The prosecution said Mabel requested for seven assorted mobile phones with their boxes and inspected them.

She further asked a witness in the case to accompany her outside with the phones.

When she got out of the shop, she left the phones with a woman sitting near the shop and told the witness that she was going to change money at nearby Forex bureau but she never returned. The prosecution said unknown to the complainant, Mabel had removed all the phones from their boxes.

A report was made to the police and she was later identified at the Odorkor Police.

The prosecution said Mabel used the same modus operandi and stole seven assorted mobile phones valued six million cedis from William Kwabena Boateng at Adabraka.

On September 9 Mabel went Mataheko and stole two Samsung mobile phones valued at 6.1 million cedis from Alex Oduro.
