A trader and three others, now at large, who snatched a taxi from a driver at gun point at Dworwulu in Accra was on Tuesday sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.

Jerry Quainoo, charged with conspiracy to commit crime and robbery, pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea by the Court presided over by Mr Justice Francis Obiri.

Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ernest Acheampong told the Court that, the Greater Accra Regional Criminal Investigation Department (CID) received information from an informant in March this year that Quianoo and one Tanee now at large, had gone to Dworwulu near the Perfect Touch Restaurant to rob.

DSP Acheampong said the informant said Quainoo and Tanee had robbed the driver of the taxi cab with registration number GW 4240-13 and had sent the vehicle to Abeka, near a Total Filling Station for sale.

He said the informant said the convict and Tanee had disposed off the vehicle number plate.

The police, according to the prosecutor, proceeded to the scene and towed the taxi to the Accra Regional Police station.

Prosecution said the informant and the Police managed to arrest Quainoo at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

In Quainoo’s cautioned statement, he admitted the offence saying he and three others took the taxi from Circle to Dworwulu and on reaching a spot near Perfect Touch Restaurant, they snatched the vehicle from the driver.

DSP Acheampong said the Police through their investigation wrote to the Department of Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA) where they got in touch with the driver and owner of the taxi.

The driver later identified Quainoo as one of the people who robbed him of his vehicle at Dworwulu after picking him and his accomplices at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
