An Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Francis Obiri, has sentenced David Amoah, a trader, to a total of 35 years imprisonment for robbery and conspiracy.

The convict will serve 20 years for robbery and an additional 15 years for conspiracy to commit crime.

The Judge in delivering his judgment, said the 26-year old convict has not shown any remorse for his actions.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ernest Acheampong told the Court that the complainant in the case was a driver and lives at Teshie.

He said on August 2, last year at about 01.00 hours the convict together with two other accomplices now at large hired the complainant’s taxi from Kwame Nkrumah Circle to the old passport office at Ridge.

DSP Acheampong said upon reaching a spot on the stretch of the road the convict and his accomplices pulled out a pistol and collected the said vehicle from the complainant, including his mobile phone and unspecified amount of money and drove off with the hijacked car.

The prosecution said complainant made a report at the police station and all efforts to look for them proved futile.

“On August 15, 2014, at about 12:30 hours, the convict and his accomplices re-surfaced at the same point and attempted to collect another taxi from the owner but this time he was arrested and handed over to the police,” he added.

DSP Acheamppong said the convict in his caution statement admitted having snatched a Toyota Matrix car with his accomplices during the month of July last year.
