A 21-year old trader, Mary Nyamekey, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment with hard labour by a Takoradi Circuit Court for stealing a baby boy.

She pleaded guilty to the offence and the court presided over by Mr Charles Bamfo Nimako, convicted and sentenced her accordingly.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Richard Boatey told the court that the mother of the child, Gladys Yamson, 18, just completed Assaikai Methodist Junior High School.

DSP Boatey said the convict loitered around the Maternity Home of Jemima Clinic at Anaji, where the baby was delivered and pretended as if she was caressing the baby to sleep.

The prosecution said when the child’s mother attended to nature’s call, Nyamekey bolted with the baby

DSP Boatey told the court that acting upon a tip-off, the Police arrested the convict at Kwesimintsim on Monday June 24, and arraigned her before the court.
