Accra, April 14, GNA - A trader who inflicted cutlass wounds on his colleague was on Thursday sentenced to three years imprisonment with hard labour by a Circuit Court in Accra.
Kobina Opoku, who was charged with conspiracy and intentionally causing unlawful harm pleaded guilty and the court convicted him accordingly.
The court ordered the arrest of Opoku's accomplice Kofi Yeboah who failed to appear before it.
Prosecution said Mr. Nuru Karimu, the complainant, lived at Agbogbloshie whilst the accused persons, who are brothers, lived at June Four behind the Timber Market near James Town.
The prosecutor Chief Inspector Helena Sarpomah told the court that on March 24, this year at about 2000 hrs. Yeboah and his wife were sleeping on a carpenter's bench outside their home when Mr. Karimu who was passing by saw them and mistook Yeboah to be a friend, Okeke and called out his name.
Prosecution said Mr. Karimu continued to call out Okeke's name but Opoku ignored him.
Yeboah angrily asked Mr Karimu why he was disturbing him and this resulted in a fight between them.
Prosecution said during the fight, Opoku came and inflicted cutlass wounds on Mr Karimu's back while Yeboah also slashed his right palm. Karimu then reported the case to the Police who arrested Yeboah and Opoku.
