Trader jailed for defiling 14 year-old girl

Kofi Peprah, a 24-year-old trader, was on Monday sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour by a Tarkwa Circuit Court for defiling a 14 year-old girl.

The accused pleaded guilty to defilement.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court presided by Mr. Justice Obeng Asante that the complainant, Julie Owusu, is the mother of the victim and lives in the same vicinity with the accused at Bogoso.

She said on November 22, last year, the victim who is a pupil at the Roman Catholic Primary School at Bogoso complained of severe abdominal pains.

Chief Inspector Tawiah said, the victim who could not endure the pains any more informed her mother in tears that the accused had sexual intercourse with her twice.

She said the victim said the accused had the last sexual intercourse with her on November 16 when she was sent by the mother to sell pito at Bogoso.

Chief Inspector Tawiah said, according to the victim, on that faithful day when she got to the Bogoso Total filling station, the accused bought GHC1.00 worth of pito and asked her to come for her money later as he was busy selling coconut.

She said when the victim went to the accused around 1800 hours to demand her money; the accused asked her to fellow him to his house at Attobrakrom, a suburb of Bogoso.

The Prosecutor said on reaching the house, the accused lured her into his room and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her, after which he paid for the pito and gave her GH¢10.00 for the act.

Chief Inspector Tawiah said after the act, the convict warned the victim not to tell anyone about the incident.

She said a report was made to the police by the complainant and the accused was arrested and charged with the offence.
