A circuit court at Akim Swedru in the Birim South District, on Monday sentenced a trader to three years imprisonment in hard labour, for attempting to steal.

The trader, Allasan Ibrahim, 21, pleaded guilty to causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry and attempted stealing.

The prosecution stated that sometime in April, 2014, an Akim Oda-based businessman, Mr. Richard Acquah, attended a church service and that Allasan took advantage of his absence and at about 11:00 hours, broke into Mr. Acquah’s room.

During the act, a witness in the case spotted Allasan and therefore, mobilized people around to search for him. He was later found on the ceiling in the room.

The prosecution said Allasan was caught and handed him over to the police, who also escorted Allasan back to the room, where his slippers together with a “Multi Television decoder” and “Home Theatre” were packed at a corner of Mr. Acquah’s room.

The presiding judge, Mr. Yaw Atta Sampong, accordingly imposed the sentence on him, based upon his plea.
