Traditional Councils Urged To set Up Endowment Funds To Support Education

Thu, 25 Sep 1997 Source: --

Winneba (Central Region) 22, Sept. Traditional councils have been urged to set up an endowment fund to support basic school programmes. Mr Stephen Baidoo, Ewutu-Effutu-Senya district director of Education, made the appeal during a courtesy call on him by Nai Osimpo, a divisional chief of the Ewutu traditional area. Mr Baidoo said only a collective obligation of all the communities can ensure the success of basic education programmes in the area. He said its success does not lie with only the central government or the district assemblies but with the entire community. Mr Baidoo recalled the excellent performance of Junior Secondary School (JSS) students in the district during the Basic Education Sport Festival in the Central Region recently and hoped that, with the traditional council's active involvement, the district could do better next year.
