Alhaji Hussein Abdul Muyasir Baba, Chief Executive Officer of GAB Energy Company Limited has called on all owners of fuel and gas filling stations to bring their facilities to international standards.

This, he said should include constant training of drivers, fuel attendants, auxiliary staff and ensuring safety measures on the tankers and stations to avoid fire outbreaks.

Alhaji Hussein who was speaking exclusively to the Ghana News Agency on safety measures at his stations said he had ensured adequate safety at all his eight fuel filling stations in the Northern and Upper East Regions.

So far, the Association of Oil Marketing Companies and the Environmental Protection Agency have organised series of training programmes for their members and more are slated for other workers of their stations in succeeding weeks.

Alhaji Hussein said his GAB Energy company, which was established in 2015 has so far rolled out seven stations in the Northern Region and one in the Upper East, while another one would be established in Accra by the close of the year.

He said recent fire outbreaks at various gas and petroleum filling stations had made more residents quite apprehensive of their surroundings and gave the assurance that his outfit would continue to adhere to workable safety measures that would attract more customers.

“I will also urge other owners to do all things right in the industry to win back the trust of the people around us.”

Alhaji Hussein also appealed to the Environmental Protection Agency, Ghana National Fire Service and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to make frequent follow-ups after issuing permits, as that could put owners on their toes to provide safety measures.

The CEO who wants to attain the status of Bulk Distribution Company in the next 10 years gave the assurance that he would continue to drum home issues on safety and good environment.
