The Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) does not really understand the meaning of changing lives and transformation, vice-presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has said.

According to him, if government really understood what it meant to transform the lives of citizens positively, it would not have cancelled key social intervention programmes introduced by the then NPP government.

“When John Mahama and the NDC were voted into power, they promised a Better Ghana. But have you seen that Better Ghana? Today, they are saying, ‘Transforming Lives and Changing Ghana’ and so on. Do they really understand transformation? The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) was working perfectly but when they took office it has suffered challenges without benefiting citizens, so where is the transformation?” he questioned.

Dr Bawumia made these comments while interacting with party supporters at Ekumfi Ekrofo in the Central Region on Wednesday September 28.

For him, the “government’s School Feeding Programme under the erstwhile Kufuor administration was effective but has failed under Mahama, so where is the transformation?”

He cited the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), teacher training allowances, and other programmes that he felt had not been managed properly to the benefit of citizens.

To him, these social issues prove that Ghana has not undergone any positive transformation and citizens will be better off under an NPP government led by Nana Akufo-Addo.

He encouraged citizens to vote out the NDC government during the December 7 general elections.

In a related development, the Omanhene of Enyan-Abasa Traditional Area, Osagyefo Kwame Akonu X, has also urged Ghanaians to disregard the claim that Nana Akufo-Addo is an old man.

According to Nana Kwame Akonu, the three-time presidential aspirant is not too old to lead the country because there are leaders across the globe who are older than Nana Akufo-Addo yet are presidents in their various countries.
