The transfer of power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after the December 7 elections will not be at great cost to the state because the Transition Team is made up of respectable men and women, Dr Opoku Adusei, a senior law lecturer at the University of Ghana, has said.

According to him, all the members of the team know that the country at the moment is facing economic difficulties, thus should not jeopardise the nation’s finances with excessive spending during the transition process.

His comments follow concerns that just as previous transitions have presented huge costs to the state, this year’s will similarly result involve a high budget.

But speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Monday December 12, Dr Adusei said: “Everybody admits that the country is facing economic difficulties but all those in charge of the Transition Team are men and women who will not incur a huge cost to the state.”

He added: “I am very sure they will run a lean team. They are respectable individuals who will not incur huge cost to the state.”

The team being co-chaired by President John Mahama and the president-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, was inaugurated on Sunday December 12.
