Transport Organizations To Help Gov't With Revenue Collection

Accra, (Greater Accra) 13 Sept., Three transport organizations have agreed to help the government to maximize its revenue from the sector. At a meeting held at the instance of the Ministry of Interior in Accra yesterday, the Co-operative Transport Organization, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Ghana Haulage Association said they will encourage their members to pay their taxes regularly. They advised drivers to obey the instructions of the police and guards belonging to any of the organizations for routine inspection of tax receipts. Mr. Albert Busomtwi-Sam, Deputy Minister of Interior, who presided said the government is aware of their contribution towards socio-economic development and called on them to unite. He urged them to educate their members on traffic regulations and the need to be courteous to other road users. Mr. A. K. Baah, General Secretary of the Co-operative Transport Association, Mr. Moses Akutey, GPTRU National Guards Commander, and Mr. Edmond Oppong Poku, General Secretary of the Ghana Haulage Association were present at the meeting.
