An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday granted bail in the sum of GH¢15,000.00 with two sureties to one Prince Amankwa, a Travel Agent, for defrauding Janet Atswei Adjetey Klu. Prince, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, would reappear before the court presided over by Jennifer A. Myeres-Ahmed, on July 28.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Isaac Agbemehia told the court that the complainant is a housewife and a resident of Teshie, while the accused person is a travel agent residing at Dansoman. He said in March this year, the complainant was introduced to the accused person by her friend, that Prince is someone who could secure a United States visa for her.

He said Prince collected an amount of GH¢11,000.00 from the complainant under the pretense of securing her the visa, and later told the complainant that he could also help her recruit three boys into the USA Army.

The prosecution said the accused person collected an amount of GH¢3,000.00 for the recruitment, and later promised the complainant that he could also help her obtain birth certificates and passports for her two children, and again managed to collect another GH¢745.00 from the complainant.

Police Chief Inspector Agbemehia said the accused person failed to secure the complainant her visa, the recruitment or the birth certificates, but rather went into hiding. He told the court that on July 4, the complainant arrested the accused person and brought him to the Documentation and Visa Fraud Section of the CID Headquarters.

Prince admitted the offence in his caution statement and stated that he gave all the money to the friend who introduced the complainant to him to secure the visa and the other documents but he failed.
