Tribunal defers Sentence on Mason

Accra (Greater Accra) 18 June, '98 An Accra Circuit Tribunal deferred sentence on a mason accused of defilling a one year old victim on June 29, to enable the Mental Hospital to provide a report on him. Kwesi Frimpong, 24, pleaded guilty to the charge when he reappeard before the tribunal. The tribunal, chaired by Mrs Owusu Arhin, ordered that Frimpong be sent to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital for a medical report.

When he first appeared before the tribunal on May 15, this year, he gave his age as 16 and the case was referred to a juvenile court, where he gave his age as 24 and he was referred back to the tribunal.

Police Chief inspector Alice Takyiwa had earlier told the tribunal that Frimpong and the parents of the victim live in the same house at Anyaa, a suburb of Accra.

The prosecutor said on April 27, this year, the victim's mother left the child in the care of her elder daughter to buy something from a nearby shop and when she returned, she was told that Frimpong had collected the victim to play with her. Madam Kram went to an uncompleted house where they usually sit for fresh air and saw Frimpong defiling her child. gri
