Bibiani (W/R), Sept 10, GNA--Three armed robbers who stole gold nuggets and gold dust estimated at 10 million cedis from the palace of Nana Kwaku Obeng, chief of Nkrodua, near Awaso in the Bibiani district of the Western Region, have been sentenced to two years' imprisonment each in hard labour by a Bibiani community tribunal.

Yaw Abdu, 30, Kwaku Asante, 28 and Kwasi Addai, 25, pleaded guilty to three counts of intent to commit a crime, unlawful entry and stealing. They were sentenced to two years imprisonment each on each count but the sentences are to run concurrently.

Police Chief Inspector Charles Cudjoe, prosecuting, told the tribunal chaired by Mr Benjamin Yaw Osei that the accused persons who were friends visited another friend, Mr Emmanuel Boateng at Nkrondua where they plotted to steal the items.

Chief Inspector Cudjoe said Boateng declined the invitation and instead informed Nana Obeng about his friends intentions. The prosecution said at midnight on August 24, this year, the three friends, armed with a gun, bows and arrows and house breaking implements, broke into the palace and stole the gold nuggets and dust.

He said the accused were arrested at Merenoa village near Nkrondua by the town committee and handed over to the Awaso police.
