Tripartite Committee to meet again on Monday

THE Tripartite Committee negotiating a new minimum wage could not reach a decision after a meeting in Accra yesterday.

Mrs Cecilia Bannerman, Minister of Manpower Development and Employment, told members of the Tema District Council of Labour when they presented a petition to her after a four-hour demonstration on Wednesday that the committee would meet yesterday to consider a new minimum wage.

A source at the Trades Union Congress (TUC) offices in Accra told the GNA that the committee will meet again on Monday to discuss some thorny issues yet to be looked at before reaching an agreement.

It said issues being looked at by the three parties; labour, employers and the government are productivity, the economy and inflation.

The source, however, said that the parties are mindful not to worsen the plight of workers.

It said so far, the TUC is sticking to its figure of 68 per cent increase of the present wage of ?7,150.

Among those present at the meeting were Mrs Bannerman, Mr Joe Donkor, Deputy Minister of Manpower Development and Employment, Mr Kwamena Bartels, Minister of Private Sector Development, Mrs Joyce Wereko-Brobby, Chief Executive of the Chamber of Mines, Mr Kwasi Adu-Amankwah, TUC boss and Mr Napoleon Kpoh, General Secretary of the Industrial and Commercial Workers’ Union.
