Trotro drivers stranded as police ‘force’ passengers into Aayalolo buses

Trotro drivers, plying the Madina - Accra stretch may from today, have to park their vehicles and perhaps join the partial lockdown or just maybe, look for another area of operation.

This is because police patrol on that route have had to resort to emptying moving trotros and transferring passengers into government-provided Aayalolo buses.

Ghanaweb’s cameras caught up with some of these police personnel who were stopping these commercial vehicles, inspecting ID cards of passengers and subsequently transferring them into the Aayalolo buses.

Some officers who spoke to Ghanaweb explained to the team that the move has become necessary because some recalcitrant citizens are taking undue advantage of their ID cards to move around.

For the buses, it could be observed that the drivers and mates were observing the safety protocols. They all had nose masks and gloves while on duty.

The police personnel also had on face masks as safety mechanisms.

It’s increasingly becoming necessary for police and military patrol to find alternative means of stopping uncooperative Ghanaians whose sole motive is to defy the President’s partial lockdown order even in the face of the deadly Coronavirus.



It is day 11 of government’s partial lockdown directive in parts of Greater Accra and the Ashanti Region.

So far, Ghana has recorded some 313 cases of the Coronavirus with 6 deaths.
