“By June 2020 we will have a whole different way we manage the public sector without the intervention of ‘goro’ boys,” Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has guaranteed.

According to Dr Bawumia, the issue of middle men’s infuriating involvement; acting as liaisons between government and Ghanaians as far as the rendering of public services is concerned will be a thing of the past once the National Identification Card registration process is completed.

“In another year when we complete the National ID Card you will see another leap forward to build systems and we are anticipating within the next year.” He indicated.

He explained that the daunting activities by ‘goro boys’ known for taking money or any form of bribe for these services like the acquisition of Passport, Drivers’ license, National Health Insurance card brings a lot of frustrations and only paves way for corruption which he said government is fighting.

In his words, “We will no longer accept cash after June 2020 for government services. It will only be electronic. When you do that, you are only eliminating the middle men –goro boys and a lot of corruption in the process.

The Veep, known for his paperless system campaign, was speaking at the Ishmael Yamson & Associates Business Roundtable in Accra today.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia added that a pilot was done at the Ministry of Tourism on cashless payment and disclosed that the revenue to the Ministry had gone up 4 times more.

Stressing on the theme of the event, Ghana We Want”, he emphasized that the process will not take long for Ghanaians to be free from ‘goro’ boys.
