A 24-year-old truck pusher who stole 23 sacks of sandals, belonging to a businessman man in Kumasi, has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, by the Nkawie Circuit Court.
Kwame Adama, was said to have committed the crime, when he was engaged by the businessman to assist him sell the goods at the Tepa market, in Ahafo-Ano South.
He pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea.
An accomplice, William Kwabena Nkrumah, an electrician apprentice, who was in the dock with him, was also given a three month sentence by the Court.
Police Inspector Jonas Newlove Agyei, prosecuting, told the Court presided over by Mr Michael Johnson Abbey that the complainant was a businessman in Kumasi, while the convict was a truck pusher at the Tepa market.
He said on April 09, this year, the complainant engaged the services of the two convicts to convey the sacks of sandals and assist him sell them at the Tepa market.
The prosecution said on April 13, this year, the complainant detected the theft of the 16 sacks and therefore reported the matter to the Tepa police.
He said the convict was arrested and upon interrogation, Adama admitted the offence and mentioned Nkrumah as his accomplice.
The prosecution said Adama led the police to arrest Nkrumah and during a search 23 pairs of the sandals were found on him.
Inspector Agyei said the two were charged and brought before the Court.
