Truck driver escapes death in accident at Taifa junction

The driver of a tipper truck narrowly escaped death when the front tyre of the truck he was driving burst on the Pokuase-Achimota road causing him to run into some shops and a house by the roadside.

The truck which was loaded with sand is reported to have been heading towards Achimota at top speed when the front right tyre burst at Taifa junction around 9:30am Wednesday morning.

The driver was able to veer off the road but the truck overturned and crashed into shops which were closed at the time.

An eyewitness who narrated the incident to GhanaWeb said the driver seems to be very experienced as it looked impossible to avoid other vehicles when the tyre burst but he was able to do that.

No death was recorded but the driver sustained some injuries and has been rushed to the hospital.

As at the time GhanaWeb was leaving the scene, there were neither police officers nor officials from the Road Safety Commission at the scene of the accident.
