Half Assini (W/R), Nov. 11 GNA - Security Personnel at the Samenye Check Point in the Jomoro District of the Western Region, have impounded a KIA truck loaded with large quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp.
The Jomoro District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Polic= e (DSP) John Ferguson Dzineku made this known to the Ghana News Agency at H= alf Assini on Wednesday. He said on November 8, 2010 at about 1900 hours, the truck arrived a= t the Check Point. After a joint check by the police and custom officials, the dried leaves were found concealed in bags under some tubers of yams. DSP Dzineku said the vehicle was on its way to New Town, a town alon= g the Ghana-Cote d'Ivoire border. He said three people on the truck, Mr Wura Amidu, the driver, Opoku Rockson, driver's mate and Paul Kwaw, have been placed in police custody at Half Assini.
DSP Dzineku said some of the leaves had been sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory for examination. He said the police in the district would not give in to the activiti= es of smugglers.
