Nana Akufo-Addo has pleaded with the people of the Volta region to “have confidence” in him and give him a chance in the 2016 elections because he will be a father for all.
The flagbearer of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) on his “Rise and Build” tour in the NDC stronghold said he would not discriminate against Voltarians.
“I’ve come to ask the people of the Volta region to trust me and to have confidence in me. The change we seek to bring is a change that will cover all parts of the country without discrimination,” the three-time presidential candidate of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition promised at the end of his three-day tour of the region at Hohoe.
“The Volta region is going to benefit strongly from an Akufo-Addo government…. I am saying to the people of the Volta Region that I am not going to disappoint you. The trust you put in me, I will not disappoint you.”
Addressing party faithful, consisting of constituency executives, parliamentary candidates and party sympathisers from the seven constituencies in the ‘Mid-Belt’, Nana Akufo-Addo explained that the main reason for this appeal to the people of Volta region is “because if they help put me in office, they know the resources of the country are going to be dealt with honestly by the next President of Ghana in 2017.”
He reassured the people that when given the nod in the 2016 elections, “I am not going to steal the money of the people of Ghana. I am not a thief. My whole career in public and private life tells you that I am not a thief. It is not at this stage of my life that I am going to steal the money of the people, when I haven’t done that before.”
Nana Akufo-Addo explained that he is working with a group of men and women who are capable of giving Ghana a first class government, and whose task will be to build up Ghana again.
“Everything in Ghana today is down. Everywhere you go across the country, and without exception, everybody is having a very difficult life. NHIS is down, our education system is down, and there is no confidence amongst the business community. Our agricultural sector is also declining. This is my concern,” Nana Akufo-Addo added.
Drawing comparisons between Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire, Nana Akufo-Addo revealed that though Ghana is bigger in land size and has a bigger population, the export value of Ghana’s agriculture is $2 billion, whereas Cote d’Ivoire, a smaller country with a smaller population, has seen its agricultural export value hit $12 billion.
“All this is because Cote d’Ivoire chose a far-sighted and practical leader, in President Alassane Ouattara. A boom is now being experienced in Cote d’Ivoire, a country which, until recently, was involved in civil strife and bloody electoral disputes. I am asking the people of the Volta region to lead the way in saying that ‘Akufo-Addo, we want to give you the chance to turn around the fortunes of the nation, and we are going to trust you to do that’”, he said.
He continued, “I want the people of the Volta region to know that they are critical to the process of change in 2016. We are determined, this time around, to bridge the gap between the NPP and the Volta Region.”
Akufo-Addo’s next stop is in the Eastern region before moving to the three Northern regions.
