Trustcare Specialist Hospital offers free medical care

Kumasi, Aug. 16, GNA - The Trustcare Specialist Hospital at South Suntreso in Kumasi at the weekend, provided free medical care to the people, as its social responsibility to the community.

About 400 people were given medical treatment including the checking of blood pressure, diagnosis, treatment and supply of drugs. The common reported diseases were malaria, which topped the list of diseases, abdominal pains and infertility.

Speaking to the press during the exercise, Dr Alex Tawiah Odoi, a specialist Gynaecologist and a part-time consultant to the hospital, said one other reason for the free medical care was to allay the wrong impression people had about the hospital that it was an expensive hospital.

He said the environment gave people the impression that fees charged there were too high to meet their pockets and said this impression was wrong, adding that, even though it was a specialist hospital, the charges were moderate.

Dr Odoi said because it specialised in gynaecology, it gets a lot of infertility cases, which he said ranked very high at the attendance, but that the hospital also deals with other cases. He said with the exception of cancer, which patients are referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for further treatment after operation, no other disease or ailment is referred to KATH. Dr Odoi said the hospital was in the process of applying to take part in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) now that the participation of private hospitals had been streamlined.
