Accra, Dec.11, GNA - The authorities at the Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital said on Thursday Mr Tsatsu Tsikata, the incarcerated former GNPC boss who is receiving treatment at the Centre will be discharged soon.

Reacting to speculations about Mr Tsikata's health in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at the hospital, Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, Director of the Centre said though it was true that Mr Tsikata was put under intensive care during the first week of admission at the hospital, he recovered well and was therefore transferred to the normal ward.

Prof. Frimpong Boateng said Mr Tsikata recovered so well. From his recovery chart, it is clear the patient was now stable and would be discharged soon.

"We are waiting for the results of some medical examinations and investigations that he underwent to help us decide how sooner or later he would be discharged," the Director said.

Prof. Frimpong Boateng said his family had requested that he should not be disturbed by visitors except a few ones including his mother, brother and wife.

He regretted allegations that Mr Tsikata was not safe at the hospital because he was a National Democratic Congress NDC man while the professor belonged to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The Director said; "the rumour was absolutely baseless because as a professional, I treat all my patients equally irrespective of age, sex, religion, race, tribe, social and political affiliations".

He said the Ghanaian society was a closed one that made it one big family in which everybody catered for each others concern. "In addition, I know Mr. Tsikata personally and consider him as a friend".

Mr Tsikata was rushed to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital a few weeks ago after suffering an asthmatic attack from the Nsawam Medium Security prison where he was serving a five-year jail term for causing financial loss to the state when he was the Chief Executive of the GNPC. 11 Dec. 08
