The chiefs and people of Tsito-Awudome has expressed displeasure over a press statement issued by Togbe Ayim Mordey VI, Adontehene of Peki Traditional Area, claiming ownership of lands and settlements under dispute.

“We find it difficult to understand why Togbe Ayim Mordey VI is claiming ownership of lands and settlements which they themselves have stated in their own press release that are under dispute.”

A statement signed by Togbe Gobo Dake, Dufia of Tsito-Awudome and made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday said, the people of Awudome found it difficult to understand the claim since the issues mentioned had been in court since 1952.

“Where lies the justification for these claims of lands and settlements when the ownership is yet to be determined by the law court?” the statement queried.

On the issue of the creation of the Ho-West District Assembly, the statement said “We feel that they are only preparing the grounds to make mischief, create disorder and disturb the peace process between the peace loving people in the two areas.”

It said the Pekis were fully aware that Kpetornu in particular had never been part of the disputed area and that the rest of the settlements which were under dispute had from time immemorial been administered variously by the Ho District and Municipal Assemblies at different times.

The statement said the people of Awudome would continue to be law abiding and allow the judicial process to take its course.**
