Tsopoli Police intercept three suspected child trafficking victims

Tema, Aug. 28, GNA - Police personnel at Tsopoli Barrier in the Dangbe East District, on Friday intercepted an 11-passenger Elubo-bound benz bus carrying three children suspected to be victims being trafficked from Togo to Elubo in the Western Region.

The children, believed to be siblings, were traveling at about 10:30 hours when Police personnel intercepted their vehicle.

The children, Assinou Hainat, 11, Assinou Achinaf, 9, and Assinou Sikinat, 5, together with Kacou Airmee Nadine, a 23-year-old Ivorian seamstress with whom they were traveling, were sent to the Tema Regional Office of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU).

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rebecca Nyamah, Tema Regional DOVVSU Co-ordinator, told the Ghana News Agency that Nadine informed the Police that the children's father handed them over to her to be sent to Elubo to their grand-mother.

DSP Nyamah said the children who could not speak any language apart from French, had their birth certificates and other traveling documents with them.

She disclosed that the children and the lady had been handed over to the Anti-Human Traffic Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further investigations.
