Tsunami will sweep NPP deceptive lawyers- Kwesi Pratt

Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. seems piqued at the conduct of some leading members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) saying their deportment sometimes leaves a bile in the mouth of Ghanaians and undermines the very democratic principles they claim to espouse.

His umbrage at their behaviour stems from the reassurances some NPP bigwigs have been giving their members that it is likely “Nana Akufo-Addo will be sworn in as president of Ghana” very soon.

According to him, he was completely taken aback to read in one of the newspapers that Ms. Gloria Akuffo, a member of the legal team representing the NPP Petitioners; Nana Akufo-Addo, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey and Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, had told NPP sympathizers that the Supreme Court is likely to rule in the NPP's favour.

Mr Pratt, in his view, believes the NPP’s “unrealistic” petition challenging the outcome of the just ended presidential elections could “technically” travel for fifteen years.

He therefore warned those engaged in that deceptive act to desist from it saying "when that boomerang occurs; they would be facing it like others have faced hurricanes and tsunamis”.

“Quite apart from the fact that it is prejudicial, it is also not based on any realistic examination of the case before the Supreme Court”.

“…So if a lawyer, in the face of all of this is telling NPP members that ‘in a few weeks time or very soon, Nana Akufo-Addo would be declared the President of Ghana’, that person is engaged in an act of deception, and is engaged in heaping up unrealistic expectations which may boomerang.”

“…and those in the NPP, who are deliberately deceiving their members that somehow, by the end of next month and so on, Nana Akufo-Addo would be declared President of Ghana by the Supreme Court should realize that when that boomerang occurs; they would be facing it like others have faced hurricanes and tsunamis”, he warned.

Speaking on Radio Gold, Kwesi Pratt pointed out that considering the likely number of people to be called to provide evidence in the case, it is illogical to expect that the final determination of the petition will be announced anytime soon as NPP lawyers have been preaching to their supporters.

The seasoned journalist said he wants to believe that the legal luminaries representing the opposition party in court are not embarking on a path of “recklessness” to just gain partisan advantage.

“The conduct of certain elements in the New Patriotic Party is leaving a sour taste in the mouth of many Ghanaians and undermining the very principles they claim they are upholding”, he said.
