Agona Nsaba (C/R) Oct 24, GNA - Tension is mounting at the Agona Nsaba Presbyterian Secondary School over the position of Assistant Headmaster Academic.

This follows the refusal of the acting Assistant headmaster Academic, Mr Fred Andrews to hand over to Mrs Betty Aduhene Chinbuah, who has been appointed as the new Assistant headmistress Academic following an interview conducted by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to fill the post.

Mr Sam Kwamena Ansah, Headmaster of the School, told the GNA that about a year and a half ago he verbally appointed Mr Andrews as the acting Assistant Headmaster Academic when Mr Duodu Ado, the then Assistant Headmaster Academic was appointed Headmaster of the Edinaman Secondary School at Elmina, left the school.

Mr Ansah stated that about 10 months ago, the GES advertised the position and Mr Andrews was one of the applicants who attended the interview.

He said however, that a letter from the Regional Education Office in Cape Coast cancelled the interview and a fresh one ordered. The Headmaster stated that after the second interview, Mrs Chinbuah was appointed but Mr Andrews protested describing the selection as "fraudulent" and called on the Minister of Education and Sports and the Director General of the GES to intervene to resolve the matter to ensure effective teaching and learning.

When GNA contacted Mr Andrews, he confirmed the story and said he would never hand over because he topped both the first and second interviews and did not understand why the woman should be appointed. He alleged that Mr Ansah conspired with the former Agona District Director of Education, Mrs Edina Yaa Takpuie and members of the Board of Governors of the School to "push him" out of the institution.
