Sunyani, Dec. 22, GNA - Twelve out of 15 passengers on board an Urva= n mini-bus perished when the vehicle collided with a DAF cargo truck on the Atebubu-Ejura highway on Monday.
Assistant Superintendent of Police John Edusei of Atebubu-Amantin district police station told the Ghana News Agency in a telephone interview that the dead were made up of 10 females and two males.
He said only the driver of the bus had been identified as Peter and th= e police were yet to identify the rest. ASP Edusei said the three remaining passengers on the bus, who receive= d severe injuries, were on admission at the intensive care unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital in Kumasi where the bodies of the dead had been kept in the mortuary.
He said the driver of the cargo truck, his mate and two other passengers, who also got injured, were rushed to a hospital at Kasei. ASP Edusei said the Urvan bus with registration number AS 1090 10 was heading towards Kumasi from Yeji whilst the DAF truck with registration number AS 9031 G was on its way from Kumasi to Yeji. He said the accident occurred when the driver of the bus on reaching Brensuano, a village situated between Amantin and Kasei, swerved a pothole and in the process burst a tyre leading to the collision with the truck.
