Snip of the Mallam Atta market on fire
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have successfully extinguished a fire outbreak at the Mallam Atta Market in Accra, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.
According to a statement issued by the service on Thursday, November 13, 2025, the GNFS received a distress call at 10:46 PM on Wednesday, November 12.
The first fire appliance from the National Headquarters, led by ADO I Ahoni, arrived at the scene at 11:02 PM.

Reinforcement teams from the Circle and Flagstaff House Fire Stations joined the operation at 11:13 PM and 11:29 PM, respectively. The combined effort enabled firefighters to bring the blaze under control at 12:01 AM and completely extinguish it at 12:24 AM.
“Crews from Circle and Flagstaff House Fire Stations joined at 2313 hours and 2329 hours, respectively, to reinforce firefighting operations”, the statement said.
In total, twelve wooden structures; six used as dwellings and six as shops, were destroyed, while a 40-foot container serving as a cold store was partially burnt.

However, several adjoining structures were salvaged from destruction due to the swift and tactical response of the firefighting teams.
No injuries were recorded, the statement added,with the cause of the fire still under investigation.
