Wed, 3 Sep 1997 Source: --

Twenen (W/R), Sept. 1, - A 15 million-cedi clinic built by the people of Twenen with assistance from the Jomoro District Assembly was commissioned at Twenen yesterday. The clinic, which has a consulting room, maternity ward and a store room would serve about six surrounding communities. Commissioning it, Mr Thomas Ekye Kwesi, Jomoro District Chief Executive, thanked the European Union for constructing a two-bedroomed quarters and a hall for the medical assistant in charge of the clinic at a cost of 13 million cedis. Mr Kwesi asked the people to patronise the clinic to justify the huge investment by the government. The DCE urged the people to ensure environmental cleanliness. Mr Kwesi asked them to send their children especially the girls to school instead of forcing them into early marriage. Dr Alex Obeng, senior medical officer in charge of the Half Assini government hospital, said the opening of the clinic is in line with government programme to provide health facilities to all communities by the year 2000. He asked traditional birth attendants to refer complicated cases to the clinic as quickly as possible. In a welcoming address, Nana Arloo Kpanyinli the third, chief of Twenen, appealed to the district assembly to provide water to the clinic. He asked the staff of the clinic to be tolerant and patient in the discharge of their duties.
