The Department of Feeder Roads (DFR) is to construct 21 steel and nine concrete bridges in five regions as from September this year. The bridges which will cost $10..8 million will be constructed in the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Western, Central and Volta regions. Mr Alex Twumasi- Boakye, director for Planning of the DFR, made this known in Accra recently.
He said installation for the second phase of the project at a cost of $7 million will cover all the regions.. It will begin next year and it will take two years to complete. Mr Twumasi-Boakye, said the objective is to make it very easy for agriculture produce to be transported to the cities and nearby towns as well as provide easy vehicular movement.
He said that already, the DFR has constructed 22 bridges in certain cocoa-growing areas in the country at the cost of about C1 billion. He said the bridges were constructed in the Central, Ashanti, Western and Brong-Ahafo regions were cocoa production is on the increase to enable farmers get easy access to their farms.
He urged the people in these areas to help in all diverse ways to make the completion of the programme a success.
