Twenty traders granted bailed for selling unregistered drugs

Accra, July 19, GNA - An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday granted bail to 20 traders for selling unregistered traditional herbs without lawful authority.

The traders who were charged for selling unregistered drugs and selling drugs in unregistered premises were each granted bail in the sum of GH¢60.00 with one surety each.

The accused who pleaded not guilty would reappear before the court presided over by Mr. Eric Kyei Baffour on July 22. They were Richard Adawoso, Agnes Aboagyewaa, Mercy Agabi, Awo Tiboah, Akua Konadu, Jowel Doute, Bright Arkoh, Baby Agra, Mary Sai, Seth Solomon, Victoria Okai, Freda Agyapong, Akua Afriyie, Abena Serwaa, Leticia Konadu, Faustina Baah, Eva Oware, Lydia Kakeraba, Adwoa Serwaa and Djwomo Ababio.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Abraham A. Annor, told the court that a team consisting of personnel from Ghana Police Service, Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Food and Drugs Board, Pharmacy Council and Registrar General's Department mounted anti-counterfeit medicines exercise in the Accra Metropolis during which the accused were found selling various drugs on the street under umbrellas and containers.

They were found selling medicines such as Golden Power, Man and Woman cream, Sweet Sex, Lady Killers and Armour among other kinds of medicines which were not registered. Meanwhile a warrant has been issued for the arrest of three traders, Enoch Adu, Seth Solomon and Dickson Nkansah, for failing to report to court.
