Two armed robbers were shot dead following an attempted robbery at the Labone residence of the 1996 parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for La Dadekotopon constituency, Mrs. Cecilia Eguakun last week Thursday.

Chronicle gathered that the two died after they exchanged gunshots with police personnel who were called to the scene of the crime.

One of the robbers died on the spot whiles the other died later after he had led the police to their hideout, where two other robbers were arrested.

The alleged ring leader escaped. Narrating the story to the Chronicle, Mrs. Eguakun, who is still in a trauma said she had a call at exactly 9.55 p.m., notifying her to get prepared for robbers on their way to her residence.

She said she did not take the threat lightly, because her neighbours have been victims of two robberies this year alone.

This, she said, compelled her to call the P&T headoffice to find out the hotline to the Police. Mrs. Eguakun said their effort to locate the police hotline proved futile.

She said she made her calltline proved futile.

She said she made her call at a telephone booth and impressed on the one in charge to fall on the police striking force for help. The police responded promptly when they were contacted.

According to Mrs. Eguakun, the police took position at her place and true to their words, the robbers came between 1.30am-2.00a.m.

As they scaled the wall to attack her, the police ordered them to stop and lay down their weapons. But they refused and shot at the police. The police then returned fire.
