A circuit court in Accra has remanded two Chinese nationals into police custody following their alleged roles in a human trafficking and prostitution ring that lured foreign victims to Ghana under false pretenses.

Appearing before Her Honour Susana Eduful at Circuit Court ‘3’, the accused, Chen Xia (37, a manager) and He Xiao Rei, alias Nana (46, a bar attendant), pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit human trafficking, human trafficking, and abetment of crime.

According to prosecuting officer ASP Patrick Issah Achiburi, the case was blown open on January 20, 2026, when a Vietnamese trader filed a complaint with the CID’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit.

In a report by thechronicle.com on February 5, 2026, the victim alleged she was recruited by Chen Xia and transported from Vietnam to Ghana by a third accomplice, Le Thi Ngoc (a Vietnamese national currently at large).

The victim was reportedly promised a legitimate job as a singer at a KTV lounge in Tema Community 12.

Upon arrival in Ghana, the reality was far from the promise of a job. The prosecution stated the victim was confined and forced into prostitution.

Police investigations led to a raid at Tema Community 12, resulting in the rescue of nine victims from the apartment.

The police retrieved a Toyota Corolla (GT 6402-23), two blue notebooks containing records, and several condoms for forensic analysis.

He Xiao Rei allegedly served as a pimp, facilitating the movement of the complainant between various locations for sexual exploitation.

The primary complainant was eventually rescued from a locked room at the "Wei Ja Na KTV" in Labone, Accra, after being moved from the Tema location.

The prosecution revealed that nearly GH¢50,000 in illicit proceeds were allegedly paid to Chen Xia as part of the operation.

Both Chen Xia and He Xiao Rei remain in custody to ensure they do not interfere with the ongoing search for the fugitive accomplice, Le Thi Ngoc.

Her Honour Susana Eduful has since directed the prosecution to file all witness statements and urged an "expeditious trial."

The case has been adjourned to February 18, 2026.
