Two alleged fraudsters remanded in custody by an Oguaa Court

A Cape Circuit Court on Thursday remanded a Farmer and a Quack Surveyor in custody for duping a Businesswoman of Elmina, who wanted a parcel of land to buy.

Both the farmer, Agyemang Boateng, 63 and his accomplice Joseph Isaac Eshun, the "Surveyor" pleaded not guilty to the charge of fraud and would reappear on Wednesday June 11.

Police Inspector Hope Azasoo told the court that the Businesswoman approached Boateng in December last year to assist her to acquire two plots of land.

He said Boateng told her he owned a parcel of land at Iture, a suburb of Elmina, and offered to sell two plots to her at the cost of 15 million cedis.

Inspector Azasoo said the Woman went to the Regional Lands Commission to make inquiries about the said land and she got to know that that land had been registered in the name of one Mr David Sam and his children.

The Woman informed Boateng about the outcome of her search and refused to part with any money.

But Boateng invited Eshun, who allayed the fears of the Woman, after he had posed as the nephew of the rightful owner of the land.

The Prosecutor said the Woman then paid the money and Eshun issued an indenture signed by the two accused persons. When she went back to the Lands Commission to register the land she was asked to produce the original of the documents.

She demanded it from Eshun but he could not produce it and investigations at the Commission revealed that the two had sold the same parcel of land to five other people.
