Aflao (V/R), Sept. 6, GNA - Two persons including a 72-year old woman were shot, both in the leg, when armed robbers allegedly raided the residence of Madam Happy Defor, a businesswoman at Aflao at the weekend.

A large quantity of gold ornaments worth millions of cedis, other valuables and an unspecified amount of cash in cedis and CFA Franc were allegedly looted by the 10-member gang of robbers. Madam Defor's mother, Madam Soenyametor Adogo, 72 and her elder sister, Madam Elisabeth Leke, who were shot by the robbers are currently undergoing medical treatment at the 37 Military hospital in Accra.

Madam Defor is also nursing a deep cut she suffered in the right arm from a piece of wood that flew into her flesh when the robbers shot into the door lock to force it open after refusing orders to open it.

According to Madam Defor, about three months ago, four youths who allegedly snatched her handbag containing about 1.2 million CFA Franc from her sister, Elizabeth, at the Aflao border were later arrested and put before an Aflao circuit court.

The court held a number of sittings on the case during which the four accused persons surrendered part of the stolen money and at the last adjourned date on August 31, September 13 was fixed for judgement.

Madam Defor said after the court sitting that day, Elisabeth who is resident in Accra, decided to spend the night with her at Aflao. She said soon after retiring to bed she heard her dogs barking loudly. "When I woke up, I saw that some persons had scaled the fenced walls into the house while others took cover behind the walls".

While still in the main hall, one of the robbers stamped on the door a number of times ordering me to open, she said. The robbers then started firing indiscriminately to frighten us to open the door.

She said in the process, one of the robbers shot into the main door forcing it to open but before three of the masked robbers could enter the hall, Madam Defor had taken cover in another room, leaving her mother and sister in the hall.

When the two frightened women shouted for help from neighbours, the robbers shot their way past them into the bedroom, ransacked the place and made away with the loot. The police have confirmed that no arrest has yet been made but investigations are continuing.
