Bongo (U/E), Jan 23, GNA- Two blind men at separate People's Assembly forums in the Upper East Region have appealed to the government to expedite action on the passage of the disability bill into law to give People With Disabilities (PWDs) equal opportunities in job placement.
They said if the law were not passed they would boycott the forthcoming general elections.
"We, our families, friends, sympathizers and well meaning Ghanaians would not go to the polls if something concrete is not done to pass the disability bill into law."
Mr. Jacob Adongo, a first year student of the University of Ghana and Rev James Amurugu, a citizen of Bongo, said this at the People's Assemblies held at Bolgatanga and Bongo.
They said their disability does not imply that they are unable to think and deliver like others without disabilities who have been given opportunities in terms of employment and education.
They said it is indefensible for any government to relax in finding solutions to issues that matter so much to a segment of the population who had been marginalized for so long.
In an interview with the GNA, Mr. Adongo argued that as a signatory to an international convention on the protection of people with disabilities, Ghana has failed to fulfil this obligation.
