Two brothers die through motorbike crash

Two brothers, James Opoku, 26, and Peter Twumasi, 20, were killed on Friday, October 16, when a motorbike they were riding on was involved in an accident.

They died shortly after their arrival at the Nkoranza Saint Teresa's Catholic Hospital in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joseph Owusu, Nkoranza Municipal Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency that the late Opoku and Twumasi were both masons riding on a motorbike with registration number M15-AS186 to work and were involved in a crash around 0830 hours on that fateful day.

At a spot opposite the Nkoranza Kassardjan Cemetery on the Nkoranza-Sekyedomase highway, one James Asare, 35, driver of a tipper truck with registration number BA2328-15 allegedly turned all of a sudden forcing Opoku, the motor rider, to run into the back of the truck.

He said they sustained serious injuries on their heads which caused them to bleed profusely.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Police Commander has expressed concern about the behaviour of some recalcitrant motor riders, despite a joint police and other stakeholder education campaigns on road safety measures in the Municipality.

DSP Owusu said, "The...public fear HIV and AIDS and other communicable deadly diseases but seem to careless about their lives when driving vehicles or riding motorbikes which can claim many lives in a crash."

He therefore advised road users including pedestrians to endeavour to take every educational campaign on road safety serious to save their lives.
