A fire engulfed a residence in Akyem Oda last Sunday night, tragically killing two brothers.

Three additional residents were injured to varying degrees and property worth thousands of Ghana cedis was damaged.

The two brothers have been identified as six-year-old Clement Agyei and four-year-old Desmond Karikari Agyei, both students at Ridge Experimental Basic School in Oda.

According to Rainbowradioonline.com, their mother, 36-year-old hairdresser Madam Bernice Karikari, and her daughters, 14-year-old Ereka Gyekyewaa and 9-year-old Blessing Agyeiwaa, managed to escape.

However, they sustained injuries while fleeing the flames. The fire is reported to have broken out at approximately 11 p.m. on Sunday.

Madam Mary Brew, a neighbour who heard the mother's screams, raised an alert and called for help after noticing flames rising from the house.

However, the victims' bedroom door was closed, preventing timely access.

It took the intervention of a student, Kwadwo Baah, to break into the room and assist Madam Karikari and her daughters in escaping.

Residents' attempts to extinguish the fire remained ineffective until the arrival of officers from the Ghana National Fire Service.

By then, the fire had already destroyed the house. An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.
