Two charged for robbery

An Accra Circuit Court on Friday remanded Ayatu Ismaila, a mason, and Hamid Hamaza, a student, in police custody for conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

The accused, who pleaded not guilty, would re-appear on February 28.

Chief Inspector E. Afful told the court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri that the on February 10 at about 1445 hours the Kaneshie Police had information that some suspected armed robbers had been lynched at new Fadama.

He said police patrol team visited the scene of the crime at Fadama close to the Abeka 1&2 School basic school and found a young man lying unconscious.

He said the man was conveyed to the Police Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival but investigations revealed that the two accused persons together with the deceased and two others at large attacked three men.

The prosecution said the accused persons sealed the mouths of the victims with super glue and tied their legs with ropes.

“At a gunpoint the accused persons robbed the victims of jewels, three wrist watches and a Dell laptop,” he added.

Chief Inspector Afful said while fleeing the scene, people in the vicinity managed to arrest the deceased and beat him to death, but the others were later arrested with the assistance of informants.

He said during investigations and in their caution statements, the accused persons said they together with the deceased and two others at large conspired to embark on robbery operations at new Fadama and did carry out the operation.
