Two chiefs outdoor as Abura Odonase

Abura Odonase (C/R), Oct. 4, GNA - Two newly-installed chiefs of Abura Odonase in the Central Region were outdoor on Sunday. They were Nana Akwa-Bodweoa-Atta VI, Odikro of the town and Nana Nyarko IV, Queen mother of the town. They both swore the oath of allegiance.

Nana Akwa-Bodweoa-Atta, aged 56, known in private as Mr Edward Bonney, succeeded his uncle, Nana Akwa-Bodweoa-Atta V, who died 14 years ago, while Nana Nyarko, known in private as Joyce Quainoo, also succeeded her grandmother, Nana Nyarko III on health and age grounds. They both promised to lead the people to develop the town and said education was among their main agenda, adding that they would also fight against teenage pregnancy in the area. Speaking in an interview later with the Ghana News Agency, Nana Akwa-Bodweoa-Atta urged Ghanaians to support Government efforts at promoting education.

He said Government alone would not be able to achieve this if the people did not complement its efforts, saying that "it is therefore incumbent on parents to nurture or offer their children better home training that could reflect on their educational pursuit". The ceremony, which coincided with the annual Okyir festival of the chiefs and people of the area, was under the theme: "Development through Unity". He appealed to the people to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme to enable them to access free and quality health care when they attended the hospital. Earlier in the day, Nana Odikro and the Queen mother were carried in palanquins amidst the beating of "Fomtonfrom" drums with dancing through the principal streets of the town.
