The chiefs and people in two farming communities in the Bosomtwe District – Deduako and Kokodei, have through their own resources rehabilitated a six-kilometre road linking their towns to the rest of the district.

This involved the construction of culverts and gravelling of the link road which was done done through the combined use of intensive labour and payment of special development levies and periodic fund-raising activities.

Nana Agyei Panin, Chief of Deduako, said it was a symbol of what could be achieved when the people set their hearts on any project.

They could not depend on the government to provide their every single need and therefore decided to take their destiny into their own hands.

He said the people were now able to travel on the road in a bit of comfort and safety.

The difficulty of transporting the sick and women in labour to health facilities because of the bad nature of the road has been overcome.

Nana Agyei said road has the advantage of boosting economic activities in the area.

The District Chief Executive, Madam Veronica Antwi-Adjei, during an inspection of the road project saluted the people for their self-help spirit, and urged them to sustain it..
