Two feared dead, 28 rescued in Kwashieman crash

A fatal accident at Kwashieman in Accra in the early hours of Friday, April 3, 2026, has claimed two lives, as twenty-eight (28) others have been rushed to neighbouring hospitals for treatment, according to a report my myjoyonline.com.

The accident, which occurred around 4:00 am on Good Friday, involved a Grand Bird passenger bus and a truck loaded with onions.

Another report from citinewsroom.com, corroborating the incident stated that the bus, travelling from Takoradi towards Sowutuom, attempted to make a turn at the Kwashieman traffic light at the same time as the truck, approaching from the Lapaz direction towards Kasoa.

Eyewitnesses account indicate that the truck was moving on an amber light when the bus driver proceeded with the turn.

Despite repeated honking by the truck driver to alert the bus, the two vehicles collided, resulting in a heavy impact.

The impact reportedly pushed the truck off its path, causing it to veer into pedestrians who were waiting near the traffic light to cross the road.

Some eyewitnesses described the scene as devastating, recounting the extent of damage and injuries caused by the accident.

Reports further indicate that the bus was carrying passengers believed to be attending a convention.

A National Ambulance crew from Ablekuma North swiftly responded and conveyed 20 victims to Weija Gbawe Municipal Hospital and eight to the Ablekuma North Polyclinic.

According to the Police at the scene, the severity of the crash has made it difficult to determine the exact number of casualties, adding that investigations are underway to ascertain the true extent of the crash.
