Two men are feared missing after a canoe carrying six passengers capsized on the Offin River near Achiase in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

According to Daniel Adu, a Unit Committee member, the incident occurred around 8 a.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2025, when the canoe’s paddler, believed to be inexperienced, lost control.

“All six people ended up in the water. Four were rescued, but the search is still ongoing for the other two, both adult men,” Adu told Accra-based Asaase News.

Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have reportedly visited the scene but suspended the rescue operation until Friday, September 26.

Traditional leaders have also performed rituals at the riverbank to aid the search, though Adu noted that these efforts have yet to yield results.

The Unit Committee Member recalled a similar tragedy in 2021 along the same stretch of the Offin River, where four people drowned.
