Two fined 1,200 Ghana cedis for illegally felling tree

Juaso (Ash), April 18, GNA - The Juaso Circuit Court presided over by Mr Jacob Boon has fined two persons GH¢600 each for illegally felling a tree in the Mirensah forest reserve near, Hwendwenase in the Asante-Akim South District. Yaw Attah and Kwaku Addae, farmer and chainsaw operator respectively, pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawful entry, felling of tree and using unlicensed chainsaw machine.

Juaso (Ash), April 18, GNA - The Juaso Circuit Court presided over by Mr Jacob Boon has fined two persons GH¢600 each for illegally felling a tree in the Mirensah forest reserve near, Hwendwenase in the Asante-Akim South District. Yaw Attah and Kwaku Addae, farmer and chainsaw operator respectively, pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawful entry, felling of tree and using unlicensed chainsaw machine. They would serve 12 months each in jail if they fail to pay the fine. Police Chief Inspector Kippo Iddrisu Mahama, prosecuting, told the court that a forest task force made up of the military and police on April 9 arrested Attah and Addae with logs from an 'Akasa' tree, which they were in the process of cutting up.They admitted entering the reserve illegally and were charged.
