Mankranso (Ash), May 08, GNA - The Mankranso magistrate court has fined a palm-wine taper and a farmer, 300,000 cedis each for failing to attend communal labour at Kwasi Woro, a village near Wioso in the Ahafo-Ano South District.

Abban Quarshie and Ali Bumber who pleaded guilty will serve a three-month jail term each in default.

Prosecuting Mr Cornelius Dumbo, an Environmental Health Officer, told the court that on March 07 the two refused to attend communal labour organized by the unit committee of the village. He said they were therefore asked to pay a fine of 20,000 cedis each but they refused and insulted Mr Issahack Ibrahim Adams, the assemblyman and the complainant in the case. The prosecutor said Mr Adams reported the case to the Ahafo-Ano South District Environmental Officer but when they were invited they refused to turn up.

He said they again failed to appear before the court on April 11 so they were arrested on bench warrant and charged with the offence.
