Breman-Asikuma (Central Region), 15 Feb. '99 -
Two fishmongers, Afua Adadzewa, 25, and Adwoa Broni, 26, have been fined 80,000 cedis each by a Breman Asikuma Community Tribunal on their own plea of guilty for selling fried fish under insanitary conditions.
The tribunal, chaired by Mr L. N. Bimpong, ordered that in default each of the accused persons should serve three months' imprisonment in hard labour.
Mr Prince Arhin, Environmental Health Officer of the Asikuma-Odobeng-Brakwa District Assembly, told the tribunal that officials of the Health Inspectorate of the assembly found the accused persons selling the fish "in insanitary conditions without any protection whatsoever."
Passing sentence, Mr Bimpong said he imposed fines on the accused persons because of the outbreak of cholera in the district and warned that such offenders would be severely dealt with.
