Two granted GHC30,000.00 bail each over robbery

An Accra Circuit Court on Monday granted a GH? 30,000.00 bail each with two sureties each to Louis Okyere alias “SM” and Abubakari Nii Laryea alias Abu, both 20 years of age each over an alleged robbery.

Both had pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit crime to wit robbery and robbery, and will make their next appearance on August 20.

Police Chief Inspector Gulliver Kwabena Tenkorang told the court presided over by Mrs Ruby Naa Aryeetey that Okyere is a driver’s mate who resides at Odorkor, whilst Laryea is a dispatch rider and lives at Darkuman.

He said Eunice Kakra Offei, the complainant is a student of the University of Ghana and a resident of the Camara Hostel, near University of Professional Studies.

Chief Inspector Tenkorang said on Sunday, July 14, at about 0840 hours the complainant was making a call on her Samsung A5 cellular phone valued GH? 1,500.00 whiles Laryea riding a Royal 125 motor bike with the registration number M-19-GR-3320 with OKyere as the pillion rider.

The Prosecution said on reaching where the complainant was standing, Okyere alighted and forcibly grabbed her hand, took her phone, and attempted to snatch her hand bag as well which resulted in a struggle between them.

He said Okyere then pulled a knife and threated to stab her if she continued to hold on to her bag so out of fear she let go the bag but started shouting for help.

The Prosecution said Okyere attempted to jump onto the motorbike to escape, but the complainant held unto her bag. Laryea however moved the motor bike dragging the complainant along.

Chief Inspector Tenkorang said one Theophilus Anum who was driving a taxi cab saw the incidence and knocked the motor bike pushing all the three down.

As a result of the impact from the taxi the back tyre of the bike got damaged in the process, but Laryea managed to escape on the damaged bike.

He said Okyere was arrested by passersby and a search on him revealed the stolen mobile phone.

The Prosecution said the taxi driver chased Laryea to the Dansoman Old Police Station where he was arrested with the assistance of others and handed over to the Dansoman Police.

He said Police proceeded to the crime scene and arrested Okyere. The damaged motor bike was then impounded by police.

Chief Inspector Tenkorang said the complainant who sustained injuries lodged a formal complaint with the police and she was issued with a medical report form to attend hospital.

He said the two accused persons were cautioned and after investigations they were arraigned.
