Apam (C/R), Sept. 18, GNA - The Apam District Magistrate's court on Thursday granted bail to two fishermen from Gomoa Abrekum, who attempted to incite the inhabitants against the chief of the town, Nana Otabil IX. Safohene Charles Okyere, aged 50 and Okyeame Edumadze, 32, pleaded not guilty and would re-appear before the court on October 8 this year. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Sampson Dziekpor, told the court presided over by Mr Charles Wiafe, that on 29 August 2009, the complainant, Nana Otabil attended a funeral in the town in the company of his elders.

He said on his arrival at the funeral grounds, an announcement was made to the gathering to be on their feet to acknowledge his presence in line with custom.

The prosecution said the two accused persons grabbed the microphone and also announced that Nana Otabil was a distooled chief and should therefore not be recognized as such and this raised tension in the town. The chief made a report to the police at Apam and the two were arrested and arraigned before the court.

A Cape Coast legal practitioner, Mr Ollenu Amponsah represented the accused persons.
